  • London Borough of Camden (25 006 759)

Statement Not upheld Refuse and recycling 17-Mar-2026

Summary: Mx X complains the Council’s refuse contractor has failed to follow an agreement made to access the housing development where Mx X lives to collect refuse bins. We have ended our investigation into the complaint as we cannot achieve the outcome Mx X is seeking about access arrangements.

  • Southampton City Council (25 007 151)

    Statement Upheld Charging 17-Mar-2026

Summary: Mr X complained the Council failed to tell the family of the potential costs associated with his father’s, Mr Y’s, care. He also complained the Council failed to progress Mr Y’s case towards permanent care and it delayed providing information to progress the financial assessment. We find the Council was at fault for its communication with Mr Y’s family about the information required to progress the financial assessment. This caused frustration. The Council has agreed to apologise for the injustice caused.

  • Lewes District Council (25 007 790)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 17-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about failing to enforce the removal of bins on the public highway. It is unlikely we would find enough evidence of fault. Enforcement is discretionary so we cannot say the Council must take formal action, even though the complainant thinks it should.

  • Newcastle upon Tyne City Council (25 008 888)

    Statement Upheld Other 17-Mar-2026

Summary: Ms X complained the Council wrongly excluded her child from the Holiday and Activities (HAF) Programme and failed to apply its discretion to allow inclusion as a child in need. The Council confused two schemes and failed to consider Ms X’s child for inclusion in the HAF programme meaning the child missed out on holiday activities and meals. A remedy which includes a distress payment and information on how to apply for the next scheme is agreed.

  • Swindon Borough Council (25 008 904)

    Statement Upheld School admissions 17-Mar-2026

Summary: We found there was fault in the way the Council decided Mrs X’s application for her children to be admitted to Reception out of their normal age group. We recommended the Council apologised and reconsidered its decision.

  • London Borough of Hackney (25 009 757)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 17-Mar-2026

Summary: We found there was delay in the council acting on a request from Miss X to transfer to the housing register of another Council. We recommended the Council apologised, chased the other Council involved and wrote to Miss X confirming the outcome.

  • Cheshire West & Chester Council (25 012 026)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Enforcement 17-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s failure to carry out planning and licensing enforcement against a nearby garage business since 2014. Some of these matters are late and we will not exercise discretion to consider them now. Other matters are subject to ongoing investigation by the Council and we will not prejudice the outcome of those investigations.

  • London Borough of Croydon (25 012 857)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 17-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s children’s services involvement with Miss X because there is not enough evidence of fault.

  • Cumberland Council (25 013 548)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 17-Mar-2026

Summary: We cannot investigate Mr X’s complaint about a children’s services’ visit to his home. The complaint is late and I see no good reason to consider it now. Also, we will not investigate the Council’s handling of personal information. The Information Commissioner is better placed to consider and decide complaints about data protection.

  • Nottingham City Council (25 013 955)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Safeguarding 17-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaint about how the Council recorded her concerns about her mother and its failure to consult with her about her mother’s care. There is not enough evidence of fault to justify an investigation.
