    Summary: The Council was at fault for the way it handled Mr Y’s request for housing assistance and for delaying carrying out a social care assessment of his needs. The Council was also at fault for how it handled the complaint. Mr Y had to wait longer for the Council to owe him a homelessness duty, interim accommodation and establish his care needs. To remedy the injustice caused the Council agreed to apologise and make payments for the distress and frustration caused.

    Summary: Miss Y complained about a support service commissioned by the Council for people in its area recovering from alcohol and drug misuse and provided to Mr X, her late father. We have found fault, causing injustice, by the service provider in failing to: follow its proper procedure in response to a suspicion Mr X had been drinking alcohol: record this procedure in writing; and ensure all staff had received training about the procedure. The Council has agreed to remedy this injustice by apologising to Miss Y for the distress caused and providing evidence from the service provider it has completed service improvements.

    Summary: Mrs Y complains about the Council’s delay in making transport arrangements available for her child, D, to attend the school named in their Education Health and Care plan. When Mrs Y complained to the Council, it did not respond for over seven months. The Council has already paid £500 in recognition of Mrs Y’s distress and has agreed to make a further payment of £200 in recognition of the anxiety caused to D. The Council will also publish information about how it processes school transport mileage allowance claims.
