Safe Premises and Equipment

Management arrangements

LGSCO offices are located in buildings where the landlord (Government Property Agency - GPA) has control of the premises with their appointed Workplace Services Provider.

LGSCO will liaise with GPA or directly with their Workplace Services Provider to ensure the workplace is safe and risks are identified, and control measures implemented. Building defects should be reported immediately to the appropriate helpdesk for each building.

The Operational Support Manager is responsible for identifying office equipment requiring maintenance. He will ensure effective maintenance procedures are implemented.

Electrical Safety

LGSCO will ensure that in all office locations and where a duty of care exists that:

  • fixed electrical installations are installed and maintained in a safe condition by those in control of premises;
  • portable electrical appliances are supplied and maintained in a safe condition;
  • persons responsible for checking, inspecting, and testing electrical equipment and
  • installations are competent;
  • persons who use electrical appliances can do so safely without risk of harm from
  • electricity; and
  • there are sufficient resources available to control all risks from electricity

Water Hygiene

The Operational Support Manager is responsible for liaising with the GPA or directly with their Workplace Services provider to ensure that maintenance, testing, and flushing is undertaken at each of the office locations.

Fire Safety and Emergency Evacuation

The Operational Support Manager is responsible for liaising GPA or directly with their Workplace Services Provider to ensure fire risk assessments and control measures are in place. This includes appropriate training and the provision of Fire Marshals and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans when required.

Lifts

The Operational Support Manager is responsible for liaising with GPA or directly with their Workplace Services provider to ensure that maintenance, testing, and insurance inspections are undertaken at each of the office locations.

Welfare Provisions

In each office location, provisions are made for specific requirements relating to the following:

  • ventilation, temperature, and lighting
  • cleanliness and waste materials
  • room dimensions and space, including workstations
  • conditions of floors, traffic routes, doors, and gates
  • falls or falling objects
  • organisation of traffic routes
  • sanitary and washing facilities
  • drinking water.
