Buckinghamshire Council (24 022 222)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 09-Jun-2025
Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council’s decision not to carry out an Education Health and Care Needs Assessment or the Councils’ actions in relation to his daughter’s personal budget. These complaints are late and there are no good reasons to exercise discretion to accept this late complaint now.
-
East Sussex County Council (24 022 403)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 09-Jun-2025
Summary: We cannot investigate Mrs Y’s complaint the Council failed to arrange a suitable school placement or alternative educational provision for her child. These matters overlap with SEND Tribunal appeals about her child’s Education, Health and Care Plan. And we cannot investigate her complaint about the actions of a school.
-
Epping Forest District Council (24 022 516)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Enforcement 09-Jun-2025
Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s failure to take enforcement action against a reported breach of planning control. There is not enough evidence of fault in the Council’s actions to justify an investigation.
-
Cheshire West & Chester Council (24 022 590)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 09-Jun-2025
Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about delay following the annual review of an Education, Health and Care Plan. An investigation by the Ombudsman would not lead to a different outcome and so our further involvement is not warranted.
-
Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (24 022 785)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 09-Jun-2025
Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the actions of staff working on behalf of the Council when Mr X’s child was kicked by an older child who should not have been present. Investigation by us would not be likely to add to the Council’s own investigation or lead to the outcome Mr X is seeking.
-
London Borough of Newham (24 023 030)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Noise 09-Jun-2025
Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about how the Council considered his request for them to move a park bench away from his property, and how it replied to his complaint. There is insufficient significant personal injustice caused to Mr X from the matters complained of to warrant an investigation. We do not investigate councils' complaint handling where we are not investigating the core issue giving rise to the complaint. We also cannot achieve the outcome Mr X seeks from his complaint.
-
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (24 023 089)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Housing benefit and council tax benefit 09-Jun-2025
Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about Housing Benefit payments. This is because the Council have already responded to Mr X and it is unlikely that we could add to the Council’s response.
-
London Borough of Hillingdon (25 000 129)
Statement Upheld Other 09-Jun-2025
Summary: The Council was at fault in how it dealt with Ms X’s complaint about its adoption service. This caused her frustration and meant she had to pursue her complaint through the wrong procedure unnecessarily. To remedy this injustice, the Council will apologise to Ms X, pay her £250 and begin a stage two investigation under the children’s statutory complaints procedure. It will also issue staff reminders to prevent the fault happening again.
-
Brentwood Borough Council (24 018 798)
Statement Upheld Homelessness 09-Jun-2025
Summary: Miss X complained about the Council’s actions when she approached it as homeless. We find the Council at fault for failing to respond to her contact, sending a decision letter to an address it knew she no longer lived at, and failing to consider her homelessness in October 2024. As a result, Miss X missed the opportunity to seek a review of the Council’s decision and was left with uncertainty about the support she may have been entitled to. The Council has agreed to apologise, make a payment to Miss X and improve its services.
-
Brighton & Hove City Council (24 019 326)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Council house sales and leaseholders 09-Jun-2025
Summary: We will not exercise discretion to investigate this complaint about the Council’s delaying an offer to buy back a council property which it sold in the past. This complaint was received outside the normal 12-month period for investigating complaints. There is no evidence to suggest that Mr X could not have complained to us sooner.
