    Summary: Mr X complained the Council has failed to properly investigate his concerns about unauthorised development and activities at an industrial site next to his home which are unsightly and cause noise nuisance. We found the Council’s failure to properly investigate Mr X’s concerns about the use and appearance of the site in a timely manner is fault. This fault has caused Mr X frustration, distress and uncertainty. The Council has agreed to apologise and make a payment to Mr X to address this injustice. It has also agreed to take action to improve its service.

    Summary: Miss X complained the Council failed to deal with a mice infestation issue in her temporary accommodation. She also complained the Council failed to resolve the issues with the window handles being too loose. We find the Council was at fault for how it handed the disrepair issues and its failure to conduct a suitability review. This caused Miss X avoidable distress and frustration, and it meant she had to live in unsuitable temporary accommodation. The Council has agreed to our recommendations to apologise to Miss X, make a payment to her to reflect the time she was living in unsuitable temporary accommodation and the distress and frustration this caused and implement service improvements.

    Summary: Ms X complains the Council was at fault in the way it responded to her requests for alternative educational provision for her daughter when she was out of school causing distress and loss of educational opportunity. We found no evidence of fault in the way the Council responded to Ms X’s request for alternative provision. We found fault in the way the Council dealt with the annual review as it did not meet the statutory timescales. We have recommended a suitable remedy for the injustice caused in this case so have completed our investigation.

    Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about an alledged failure by the Council to progress the complainant’s application to carry out development works on a public right of way in a timely manner.
