Summary: Mr X complained about the Council’s decision to reduce his late mother in law’s care package. There was no fault in the way the Council reached its decision to reduce Mrs Y’s care package.

  • Hertfordshire County Council (24 015 898)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 28-Mar-2025

Summary: We have upheld this complaint because the Council delayed carrying out an Education Health and Care needs assessment for a child. The Council has agreed to resolve the complaint by offering to make a suitable payment to the complainant to remedy the injustice this caused.

  • Cornwall Council (24 015 940)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Charging 28-Mar-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaint the Council did not complete her mother’s financial assessment correctly. She says the Council did not consider information she provided and inappropriately included her late father’s estate. This is because there is insufficient evidence of fault.

  • Luton Borough Council (23 016 706)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 28-Mar-2025

Summary: Ms X complained the Council failed to act when she was issued with an eviction notice from her privately rented accommodation. She also complained about the Council’s actions following her eviction. We found fault by the Council in its handling of Ms X’s case. The Council agreed to apologise to Ms X and make her payment in recognition of the financial losses she incurred, and the distress caused to her and her children.

  • Nottingham City Council (24 017 902)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Allocations 28-Mar-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the suitability of an offer of housing. It is reasonable to expect Miss X to have continued using the Council’s review procedure.

  • Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council (24 017 953)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 28-Mar-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan) process for the complainant’s child. If Mrs X is unhappy with the EHC Plan it is reasonable for her to appeal to the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability). An investigation by the Ombudsman would be unlikely to add anything to the Council’s complaint response or achieve a different outcome. The delay by the Council in issuing a final EHC Plan is not significant enough to warrant an investigation and we will not look at complaint handling in isolation.

  • Devon County Council (24 018 650)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Highway repair and maintenance 28-Mar-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about highway maintenance because there is not enough evidence of fault to justify investigating.

  • Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council (24 018 949)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Councillor conduct and standards 28-Mar-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about standards committees because any injustice is not significant enough to justify our involvement and there is no worthwhile outcome achievable by our investigation.

  • Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (24 018 976)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 28-Mar-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint that the Council was at fault in the course of a child protection enquiry relating to the complainant’s children, and in its response to her subsequent complaint. Our intervention would add nothing significant to the response the complainant has already received and is not therefore warranted.

  • Bristol City Council (24 018 982)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Alternative provision 28-Mar-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint that the Council failed to make appropriate alternative educational provision for the complainant’s daughter and failed to ensure the delivery of provision set out in her Education Health and Care Plan. Our intervention would not add anything significant to the outcome which has already been achieved and is not therefore warranted.
