Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 02-Jan-2025
Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about how he was treated by social services. The matters he complains of are closely linked to the disputed care of his child, which is a matter that can only be resolved by a court. It would therefore be reasonable for Mr X to use his right to go to court.

Surrey County Council (24 011 371)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 02-Jan-2025
Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint that the Council has failed to properly support her son, who has special educational needs. This is because the injustice she claims stems from the Council’s initial decision not to issue an Education Health and Care Plan and its later decision that he should continue to attend a mainstream school. These decisions carried a right of appeal which it was reasonable for Mrs X to use.

Hertfordshire County Council (24 003 422)
Statement Upheld Special educational needs 24-Dec-2024
Summary: Ms X complained the Council failed to provide suitable education for her child since May 2023. We found fault with the suitability of the education provided by the Council for two terms and six weeks from 22 May 2023 to 26 July 2024. The Council has already paid Ms X £2,250 for the missed education and £270 for missed free school meals. The Council has also offered £600 for the distress and anxiety this matter has caused Ms X and paid this to Ms X. The Council has agreed to apologise to Ms X for her distress. We consider the £600 it has paid is a suitable symbolic gesture for her distress. The Council has agreed to pay Ms X an extra £1,675 for her child’s missed education.
