  • Hampshire County Council (26 008 674)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Highway repair and maintenance 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a claim for damage to Mrs X’s car. Mrs X has an alternative legal remedy, to pursue a claim of negligence through the courts. Only the courts can decide whether the Council was negligent. It is therefore reasonable to expect Mrs X to use her legal remedy.

  • London Borough of Croydon (26 008 695)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a fixed penalty notice the Council issued to X. There is no worthwhile outcome achievable, and we cannot achieve what X is looking for.

  • Sunderland City Council (26 008 699)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Trees 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaint about damage caused to her property by a council-owned tree. Only the courts can determine liability for the damage, so it is reasonable for Ms X to take the matter to court.

  • London Borough of Southwark (26 008 723)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We cannot investigate Ms X’s complaint about matters relating to the coronial service. The Council is not responsible for the actions of Coroners and so the law prevents us from investigating. Additionally, we will not investigate complaints about complaints handling in cases where we cannot investigate the substantive matter.

  • Bury Metropolitan Borough Council (26 008 743)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Parking and other penalties 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a disputed penalty charge notice, including how the Council considered X’s representations about it. There is no worthwhile outcome achievable and no significant injustice.

  • Buckinghamshire Council (26 008 754)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Highway repair and maintenance 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a claim for damage to Mrs Y’s car.  Mrs Y has an alternative legal remedy, to pursue a claim of negligence through the courts. Only the courts can decide whether the Council was negligent. It is therefore reasonable to expect Mrs Y to use her legal remedy.

  • Coventry City Council (26 008 773)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Licensing 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s decision on a licensing matter X disagrees with. This is because X could have appealed this decision to the Magistrates Court. Only the court could make a new decision, and we could not say the Council’s decision was right or wrong. It was reasonable for X to have used their appeal right. Additionally, there is not enough evidence of fault in how the Council notified X of its decision to revoke their licence.

  • Leeds City Council (26 008 775)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We will not investigate X’s complaint about how the Council dealt with their son’s education provision. This is because it is made late and I see no good reason to exercise discretion and consider it now.

  • Staffordshire County Council (26 008 776)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We cannot investigate this complaint about X’s contact with the Council relating to a child. This is because the law does not allow us to consider complaints which are related to ongoing court proceedings.

  • Woking Borough Council (25 028 338)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 05-Jul-2026

Summary: We will not investigate Miss X’s complaint that the Council failed to collect her household waste on one occasion in December 2025. The claimed injustice is not significant enough to warrant an investigation by the Ombudsman.
