Statement Closed after initial enquiries Parking and other penalties 11-Jul-2026
Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s decision to cancel a proposed car park following years of consideration since it was approved in 2021. There is insufficient evidence of fault in the decision to withdraw the project. We will not exercise discretion to consider the matters which took place more than 12 months before Mr X complained to us. Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 10-Jul-2026
Summary: We cannot investigate this complaint that the Council was at fault in placing the complainant’s child at a school which cannot meet his needs. This is because the complainant has used her right to appeal to the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability), and the law therefore prevents us from investigating.

West Sussex County Council (25 008 596)
Statement Upheld Special educational needs 09-Jul-2026
Summary: Mrs X complained about the Council’s failure to provide her child (Y) with a suitable education and support for her special educational needs when she moved into the area. We found the Council to be at fault because it failed to secure a school place and there was poor communication with Mrs X. It also consulted with the wrong school initially. This caused distress and loss of provision. To remedy this injustice, the Council agreed to apologise, made a symbolic payment and take action to improve its service.
