Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (22 008 112a)

Category : Health > Hospital acute services

Decision : Closed after initial enquiries

Decision date : 27 Oct 2022

The Ombudsman's final decision:

Summary: We will not investigate Mr A’s complaint about his care and treatment by a Council and two NHS Trusts. Mr A is complaining too late about some of the issues, and an investigation is not likely to achieve the outcomes he wants. Other parts of the complaint have not yet been considered by the organisations.

Final decision

  1. We will not investigate Mr A’s complaints. Parts of his complaints are very late and there is no good reason to consider them now. Some parts of his complaints have not yet been considered by the organisations he is complaining about.
  2. Mr A has asked for several outcomes that we cannot or are highly unlikely to achieve. We are also unlikely to be able to find that the actions of the organisations complained about were the cause of Mr A’s suicide attempt. We will not investigate complaints where there is little prospect of achieving the outcomes sought.
