  • Suffolk County Council (23 004 516)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Disabled facilities grants 24-Aug-2023

Summary: We will not investigate Miss X’s complaint about the Council noting inaccurate information in a letter. She says the Council stated she had a walk-in shower when she does not. This is because an investigation would not lead to different findings or outcomes.

  • Suffolk County Council (23 005 946)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Trees 23-Aug-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s refusal to carry out works to highway trees. This is because there is no evidence of fault on the Council’s part.

  • Suffolk County Council (23 004 873)

    Statement Upheld Other 21-Aug-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s actions following an investigation into Ms X’s complaint under the statutory children complaints procedure. This is because an investigation would not lead to a different outcome as the Council has made an appropriate offer to remedy the injustice caused to Ms X by the faults identified.

  • Suffolk County Council (23 002 710)

    Statement Upheld School transport 17-Aug-2023

Summary: Mrs M complains about the Council's handling of her application for transport for her son B's post-16 education. I uphold Mrs M’s complaints about the lack of information on the Council’s website and in its policies about payments instead of transport, and delay by the Council making decisions. The Council’s undertaking to improve its website and policies, and its apology for the delay, are a suitable remedy. I do not uphold Mrs M’s complaint about the mileage rate used by the Council or its decision not to pay for her time. There is no fault in these decisions. The Ombudsman cannot question decisions made without fault.

  • Suffolk County Council (22 016 255)

    Statement Not upheld Charging 15-Aug-2023

Summary: Mrs C says the Council wrongly treated her as having deprived herself of capital to avoid care fees when she had only converted two disregarded life assurance bonds into one disregarded life assurance bond. There is no fault in the Council’s decision making process.

  • Suffolk County Council (23 004 009)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 14-Aug-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint that the Council has been at fault in addressing the complainant’s son’s special educational needs. This is because the matters about which she has complained carry the right of appeal to the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability), or are inextricably linked to those matters.

  • Suffolk County Council (22 011 443)

Statement Not upheld Antisocial behaviour 09-Aug-2023

Summary: Mr X complained about how the Council handled his anti-social behaviour (ASB) case review appeal. Mr X said the Council did not follow a proper process or consider all the points he raised. We do not find the Council at fault.

  • Suffolk County Council (22 012 256)

Statement Not upheld Special educational needs 06-Aug-2023

Summary: Mr X complained that the Council refused to complete an annual review of his son’s education, health and care plan and failed to issue a revised EHCP by the statutory deadline following a phase transfer review. We found the Council was not at fault.

  • Suffolk County Council (22 010 176)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 16-Jul-2023

Summary: Ms X complained about the Council’s handling of the annual review of her daughter’s Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan and delay in issuing her EHC plan. She also complained about its consideration of her request for a personal budget. We found evidence of fault by the Council. The Council has agreed to our recommendations to put right the injustice caused Ms X and her daughter and to improve its service.

  • Suffolk County Council (23 004 225)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Highway repair and maintenance 12-Jul-2023

Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint about the Council’s decision to refuse her claim for damages following a fall on the highway. This is because this is a complaint about negligence which is a legal matter for the courts to consider and decide and it is reasonable to expect Mrs X to use her right to pursue her claim in the courts.
