  • Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (18 018 414)

    Statement Upheld Other 22-Oct-2019

Summary: Mr X complains about Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service’s involvement in inspecting his house since a fire there in November 2017. In particular, he says it made mistakes in a home fire safety check in December 2018. The Ombudsman found the Fire Service was at fault for failing to provide Mr X with a full explanation why his deep fat fryer was considered unsafe. This caused him an injustice in the form of frustration, and we have recommended it should be remedied by way of an apology to Mr X.

  • City of Wolverhampton Council (19 009 431)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 21-Oct-2019

Summary: Miss X complains her car insurance premium has increased dramatically following an incident last year when a Council waste collection vehicle caused damage to her parked car. She says it has refused to deal with her complaint about these matters, which have caused her significant distress and financial loss. She states she will have to sell her car if she cannot recuperate the cost of the increased premium and wants the Council to compensate her. The Ombudsman will not investigate this complaint. This is because it is reasonable to expect Miss X to seek compensation in the courts if the Council will not provide this.

  • Cornwall Council (19 008 321)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 11-Oct-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate this complaint about the response the Council gave to a question asked by the complainant. It is unlikely the Ombudsman would find fault by the Council had caused the complaint injustice that would justify his involvement. He will not investigate how the Council dealt with a complaint about something we will not pursue.

  • Worcester City Council (19 008 235)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 09-Oct-2019

Summary: Mr X complains the Council has not fully responded to a Freedom of Information request he submitted about the commitments it has made to tackling climate change. He wants to find out why it has not met its commitments, specifically why it has not appointed an officer with climate change responsibilities. To rectify the situation, he wants it to acknowledge its shortcomings and commit to meeting its planned climate change targets in the future. The Ombudsman cannot investigate Mr X’s complaint. This is because the parts of it are either out of our jurisdiction or should be referred to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
