  • North Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council (19 009 713)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 13-Nov-2019

Summary: Miss X complained about how the Council handled her children’s cases. We cannot investigate this complaint because it relates to court proceedings, which are ongoing. Miss X should raise her concerns as part of the court process.

  • Liverpool City Council (18 018 624)

    Statement Upheld Child protection 12-Nov-2019

Summary: Ms B complained about actions the Council took in response to concerns raised by social services, in respect of applying for a school place for her daughter and in respect of a complaint about a teacher at her daughter’s previous school. We find fault with the time taken to offer her daughter a school place but we do not find fault with the Council’s actions in the other areas.

  • London Borough of Merton (19 000 103)

Statement Not upheld Child protection 12-Nov-2019

Summary: Miss C complains about the Council’s handling of a safeguarding issue which resulted in her children being placed on a child protection plan. Miss C says fault by the Council has caused her family considerable distress, particularly because her partner had to move out and could not see their children for a period. We have decided to end our investigation. This is because the Council has already provided a remedy for the issues Miss C complains about. Further investigation by the Ombudsman is unlikely to result in a different outcome.

  • Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (19 003 974)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 12-Nov-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman cannot investigate this complaint about the Council’s social services and its involvement with the complainant and his son. This is because the matters complained of are out of the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction.

  • London Borough of Sutton (19 009 962)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 11-Nov-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mr X’s complaint the Council failed to provide support to a child and that this led to the child stabbing him. We cannot investigate the Council’s actions in relation to this child without the consent of the child or person with parental responsibility.

  • Birmingham City Council (19 010 467)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 10-Nov-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mr A’s complaint that a social worker added false information about him to the Council’s records. This is because he has brought his concerns about the information to the attention of the Information Commissioner, who is better placed than the Ombudsman to consider them.

  • Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council (19 007 228)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 10-Nov-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Miss A’s complaint that a social worker was at fault in his involvement with her family. This is because the complaint relates to matters which have been, or could have been, raised in a court of law.

  • Medway Council (19 010 113)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 09-Nov-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mr A’s complaint that the Council has failed to make a formal apology for its failings during its involvement with his family. This is because there is insufficient injustice to warrant the Ombudsman’s involvement.

  • Nottinghamshire County Council (19 003 954)

    Statement Upheld Child protection 08-Nov-2019

Summary: Mr E complains the Council failed to investigate an allegation against him in an appropriate and timely way. There is evidence of Council fault in it not allowing Mr E to challenge information about him presented to the Council in 2013. The Council has agreed to consider this now and to make a payment to reflect the distress its fault caused to Mr E.

  • Kent County Council (19 005 238)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 08-Nov-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mr A’s late complaints about the actions taken by the Council in 2015 regarding his daughter, B. This is because Mr A could have come to the Ombudsman sooner if he was concerned about the Council’s actions and there is no good reason for the Ombudsman to disapply the law to investigate this late complaint now. The Ombudsman cannot investigate matters which have been considered by a court.
