  • Cornwall Council (19 005 796)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 04-Sep-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mrs A’s complaint about the Council distributing minutes of a meeting she says are inaccurate and not reflective of what was said. This is because Mrs A can ask the Council to put a copy of her views on file and if she is concerned the minutes contain incorrect data about her, she can ask the Information Commissioner’s office (ICO) to consider her complaint.

  • Buckinghamshire County Council (18 017 524)

    Statement Upheld Other 02-Sep-2019

Summary: Mrs X complained about the Council’s management of her daughter’s (Miss D’s) support. There is fault in way the Council handled D’s financial support. This caused distress for Miss D and Mrs X. The Council has agreed to remedy this injustice.

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (19 003 456)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 02-Sep-2019

Summary: The Ombudsmen will not investigate this complaint about the circumstances surrounding the detention of the complainant under the Mental Health Act. This is because some of the matters the complainant raises do not fall under the Ombudsmen’s jurisdiction. The complainant’s other concerns relate to care provided more than 12 months ago. These matters are late for the Ombudsmen’s consideration.

  • Cambridgeshire County Council (19 004 792)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 30-Aug-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Ms A’s complaint about care provided to her daughter, Ms B. This is because the Council’s actions have not caused a significant enough injustice to Ms A or Ms B warranting an investigation. The Council has apologised for the mix up with her dental appointment and the Ombudsman is satisfied this remedies any injustice caused.

  • Somerset County Council (18 010 660)

    Statement Not upheld Other 29-Aug-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Ms A’s complaint about the behaviour and alleged neglect of a Social Worker who visited her in hospital. This is because it is unlikely he would find enough evidence of fault with the actions taken by the Social Worker to warrant an investigation.

  • Surrey County Council (18 013 134)

    Statement Not upheld Other 27-Aug-2019

Summary: Mrs C complains the Council is failing in its legal duties to support her adult daughter who is deaf-blind which means she remained in an unsuitable placement for longer than necessary. The Ombudsman has ended his investigation as we do not have the consent of Mrs C’s daughter.

  • South Gloucestershire Council (19 004 823)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 23-Aug-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mrs A’s late complaint about the actions of Council staff in 2016 and 2017. This is because Mrs A could have come to the Ombudsman sooner if she was concerned and there is no good reason to disapply the law to investigate these matters now. Mrs A’s allegations of intimidation and harassment amount to a personal injury claim that is properly for the courts to determine.

  • Birmingham City Council (18 011 234)

    Statement Upheld Other 22-Aug-2019

Summary: Mr C complains about the way in which the Council assessed his mother’s care needs when she lived in the community, and later when she was in hospital and needed a care home. The Ombudsman found fault with the way the Council recorded the first assessment and with the failure to involve Mr C in the second assessment. There was also an unreasonable delay in placing Mr C’s mother in a suitable care home. The Council has agreed to the Ombudsman’s recommendations, which include a financial remedy for the avoidable distress Mr C and his mother experienced.

  • London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (18 016 850)

    Statement Upheld Other 21-Aug-2019

Summary: Mr X complains about the Council’s handling of his friend’s belongings after he went into a care home. He complains the Council did not have authority to dispose of the belongings. The Ombudsman finds fault with the Council’s actions. The Council has agreed to apologise to Mr X and pay him a financial remedy.

  • Middlesbrough Borough Council (19 003 360)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 20-Aug-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about his brother’s social worker. This is because an investigation by the Ombudsman is unlikely to add significantly, if at all, to the response already provided via the Council’s investigation.
