    Statement Upheld Domiciliary care 19-Jul-2019

Summary: Mrs X complains about a care provider’s handling of her father’s care. She complains the care provider did not assess her father’s care needs properly, did not arrange a suitable care package, and did not check the carer’s notes before she left. The Ombudsman finds fault with the care provider for failing to provide appropriate care and for its poor record keeping. We recommended the care provider apologise to Mrs X, pay her a financial remedy, and improve its procedures and practices.

Statement Not upheld Domiciliary care 08-Jul-2019

Summary: Mr X complains the Council failed to ensure his friend’s care needs were met, resulting in his premature death. We cannot remedy the injustice to Mr X’s friend as he has died. Nor can we deliver the outcomes Mr X is looking for. There is therefore nothing we can achieve by investigating this complaint further.

  • Devon County Council (18 011 832)

    Statement Upheld Domiciliary care 04-Jul-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman upholds Mr X’s complaint about the way a care package for his wife, Mrs X, was ended. The care provider did not follow the correct process to end its involvement and as a result Mrs X was left without care for two weeks. In addition, there were times care was late or calls were short. The Council agreed to apologise to Mr and Mrs X and pay them in recognition of the distress this caused. It will issue a reminder to care providers about the correct way to end their involvement with a service user. It will also advise them on what to do if they are having difficulties delivering the agreed package of care.

    Statement Upheld Domiciliary care 04-Jul-2019

Summary: Mr X complains the Council’s care provider, Sentinel, failed to deal properly with concerns he raised at a meeting on 26 October 2018, resulting in one of its carers victimising him and Sentinel giving notice on the contract for his care. Sentinel did not respond constructively to the concerns raised by Mr X, causing him unnecessary distress. The Council needs to apologise, pay financial redress and work with Sentinel to improve its working practices.

  • Buckinghamshire County Council (18 012 103)

    Statement Upheld Domiciliary care 28-Jun-2019

Summary: The Council is at fault as it failed to properly consider whether Miss X had fluctuating needs when carrying out care needs assessments so wrongly recommended her personal budget be reduced. The Council is also at fault as it cannot demonstrate it considered all Miss X’s claimed disability related expenditure. The faults by the Council caused significant distress and uncertainty to Miss X and put her to avoidable time and trouble which the Council has agreed to remedy.
