Summary: Mrs B complained about the actions of the Council in failing to provide social care support for her two children, C and D since late 2018, delay in carrying out a carer’s assessment and delay in dealing with her complaint about the matter. We found the Council delayed in finding suitable support for C at different points amounting to approximately 18 months in total. The Council has agreed to pay Mrs B £1000 and review its commissioning service.

Summary: Miss X complained the Council failed to properly consider a safeguarding matter she raised, it failed to speak to her about it and the Council wrongly judged that she had a mental health illness. We found there was fault in the failure to speak with Miss X and for delay in the complaint process, but the safeguarding matter was dealt with properly.

Summary: Mr X on behalf of his daughter Ms Z, complained the Council failed to do what it agreed at a mediation meeting in 2019 causing anxiety and distress. The Council did not provide an updated care and support plan as required in October 2019 and this is fault. A suitable remedy for the injustice caused is agreed.

Summary: Miss X complained the Council failed to provide her son (Y) with education and free school meals. We found fault with the Council for failing to provide Y education. We recommended the Council apologise to Miss X and pay £1400 in recognition of Y’s missed education and £250 for uncertainty and distress.

Summary: Ms X complains the Council has failed to deal properly with her direct payments. The Council was at fault over the handling of Ms X’s direct payments. This left her out of pocket and pursuing her concerns for a long time without success. The Council needs to apologise, refund the money owed to Ms X and make a symbolic payment for the distress and time and trouble she has been put to.

Summary: Mrs X complained on behalf of her family member, Mrs Y. Mrs X says the Council misinformed her about the charges due for Mrs Y’s care in a care home placement. The Council was at fault for poor communication. It has already apologised for the injustice caused which was an appropriate remedy.

Summary: Ms X complains the Council’s Reablement Team took revenge on her after she complained about one of its assistants, by giving her caffeinated tea which made her ill. The Council upheld her original complaint and apologised. There is no evidence of fault by the Council causing injustice which requires a further remedy.

Summary: Ms B complained that the Council failed to ensure that the special educational provision in her daughter, C’s Education, Health and Care Plan was put in place for over a year. We found fault in the actions of the Council. The Council has agreed to pay £1350 for the benefit of C’s education and £400 to Ms B for her distress and uncertainty.
