Advice on comparing statistics across years

In 2022-23 we changed our investigation processes, contributing towards an increase in the average uphold rate across all complaints. Consider comparing individual council uphold rates against the average rate rather than against previous years.

In 2020-21 we received and decided fewer complaints than normal because we stopped accepting new complaints for three months due to Covid-19.

People who need care should not be asked to choose which of their needs, identified through an assessment, their council should meet, the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman has said.

A council which showed ‘scant respect’ for providing an agreed remedy to a vulnerable young person has been criticised for a second time by the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman.

A Northamptonshire mother was separated from her adopted child for almost five years because of faults in a social worker’s assessment, the Local Government Ombudsman has said.
