Find out more about service improvements

When we find fault, we can recommend improvements to systems and processes where they haven’t worked properly, so that others do not suffer from these same problems in future. Common examples are policy changes; procedural reviews; and staff training. Service improvements from decisions are published for 5 years and those from reports are published for 10 years.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (21 011 626)

    Category: Housing Date: 31-Aug-2022

    Summary

The Council is at fault for failing to consider medical evidence Miss X provided in support of her housing application. The Council is also at fault for failing to consider any reasonable adjustments it could have made when corresponding with Miss X. We find this caused her distress and uncertainty. To remedy this, the Council has agreed to apologise to Miss X, reconsider her application, make a payment to her and circulate guidance to staff regarding the Council’s duties under the Equality Act 2010.

    Service improvements

The Council will ensure its staff who deal with members of the public are aware of the Council's duties under the Equality Act 2010. The Council has agreed to circulate a reminder to all relevant staff about ensuring people are routinely asked or prompted about any reasonable adjustments.
