  • Birmingham City Council (25 006 413)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 23-Sep-2025

Summary: We cannot investigate Miss X’s complaint about missed bin collections. The reason Miss X’s bin was not collected was because of industrial strike action which affects all or most of the Council’s residents, and the law says we cannot investigate.

  • Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council (25 002 275)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 21-Sep-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s decision to supply a resident with wheeled bins without them having room to store them within their property. Access issues to a private road are civil matters between Mr X and his neighbour. The Council has apologised for failing to follow its complaint procedure which we consider is a satisfactory remedy to this part of the complaint. Further investigation of Mr X’s concerns will not lead to a different outcome.

  • Harlow District Council (25 008 054)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 17-Sep-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint that a Council officer took a photograph of his property. Any injustice Mr X has suffered is not significant enough to warrant investigation.

  • Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (25 007 292)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 17-Sep-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint about the Council publishing the incorrect start date for its green waste collection service. This is because the matter has not caused Mrs X any significant personal injustice which is so serious that it warrants an investigation.

  • Bolsover District Council (25 004 008)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 15-Sep-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a refuse lorry causing damage to a kerb and grass verge, and about the Council’s handling of a subsequent telephone call about the matter. There is insufficient evidence of fault causing the complainant a significant injustice, there are other bodies better placed to consider the complainant’s concerns, and an investigation is unlikely to lead to a different outcome.

  • Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council (25 006 633)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 14-Sep-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s decision not to provide more bins to Miss X’s building. This is because there is not enough evidence of fault to warrant an investigation.

  • Thurrock Council (24 020 673)

Statement Upheld Refuse and recycling 09-Sep-2025

Summary: Mr D complains the Council failed to fully consider relocating communal waste bins. I do not have contemporaneous evidence of how the Council assessed the site and considered Mr D’s request. I have upheld the complaint and asked the Council to carry out a new assessment, which it should document, and share its decision with Mr D.

  • Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (25 005 387)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 09-Sep-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council’s refuse workers repeatedly leaving his neighbour’s bin in front of his driveway. This is because the Council has already taken suitable action in response to Mr X’s complaint and there is nothing further we would add or recommend.

  • Portsmouth City Council (25 007 764)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 08-Sep-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about bins and waste left out on his street. This is because the Council acted in line with its waste management policy and it is unlikely further investigation would achieve a different outcome.

  • Huntingdonshire District Council (24 021 631)

Statement Not upheld Refuse and recycling 07-Sep-2025

Summary: Miss X complained the Council did not collect her garden waste on multiple occasions even though she had been accepted for assisted collections. We did not find enough evidence of fault by the Council. Miss X has the right to bring the matter to the attention of a court if she believes the Council’s actions amounts to a breach of contact.
