Category : Education > School admissions

Decision : Upheld

Decision date : 07 Jun 2016

Summary

A man complains on behalf of his daughter that an appeal panel failed to take account of information she provided in support of her application for her son's reception place at Khalsa Primary School.

Finding

While we have not found fault on the complaint that the appeal panel failed to take account of the information supplied, we have found fault on matters which came to our attention during the course of our investigation.

Recommendations

To remedy the injustice caused, the school should within one month of the date of our report, arrange a fresh appeal with a new panel and clerk.

We will refer Khalsa Primary School's admission arrangements to the Office of the School's Adjudicator for it to consider the legality of the school's current admission arrangements and its ongoing use of the religious questionairre.

The school should share our report with any panel members hearing appeals for Khalsa Primary School until the Office of the Schools Adjudicator has concluded its considerations.

Ombudsman satisfied with response: 06 January 2017.
