  • Mid Devon District Council (25 015 694)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Council tax 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X complaint about the Council’s pursuit of council tax debts. There is insufficient evidence of fault to justify further investigation.

  • City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (25 015 767)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Alternative provision 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate Ms M’s complaint about her son’s education because it is late. There is nothing we could add to the Council’s response for the short period of time we could investigate, and no worthwhile outcome achievable.

  • Gloucestershire County Council (25 015 803)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Trading standards 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint about the way the Council considered her report to trading standards about a trader. We have not seen enough evidence of fault in the Council’s actions. Also, Mrs X can ask the small claims court to decide whether the trader is responsible for her financial loss, thereby remedying her claimed injustice.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (25 015 888)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 25-Mar-2026

Summary: Miss F complained about the Council’s decisions not to assess her son’s education, health and care needs and not to issue an education, health and care plan and that it wrongly asked her to submit a new request for an assessment. We found it was fault for the Council to ask Miss F to request a new needs assessment. This caused distress and frustration, a delay in issuing the education, health and care plan, and a loss of education. The Council has agreed to make a symbolic payment to remedy this.

  • Warrington Council (25 015 969)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Charging 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this late complaint about the Council including Mr Y’s charges for care in Mrs Y’s deferred payment agreement. There is not a good reason for the delay in the matter being brought to the Ombudsman. In any event, further investigation would not achieve a different outcome.

  • Coventry City Council (25 016 043)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s handling of safeguarding concerns because there is not enough evidence of fault.

  • Brighton & Hove City Council (25 016 432)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a lack of special education provision. The Council investigated Miss X’s concerns and said it would organise an annual Education, Health, and Care Plan review for Miss X’s child. Given these actions, it is unlikely we would find fault with the Council’s response and we cannot achieve what Miss X is looking for.

  • North Yorkshire Council (25 016 435)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about Mr X’s contact with his children and the Council’s refusal to consider his complaint under the statutory children’s complaints procedure. There is not enough evidence of fault in the Council’s actions to warrant us investigating. Also, the Information Commissioner is better placed to consider the part of the complaint about requests for information, and we cannot achieve the outcome Mr X wants.

  • London Borough of Barnet (25 016 436)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We cannot investigate Miss X’s complaint about the education provided to her child because she has appealed to the Tribunal.

  • Kent County Council (25 016 530)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Assessment and care plan 25-Mar-2026

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council’s actions in relation to his parent’s care and support needs. This is because the complaint is late and there are no good reasons why he did not complain to us sooner.
