  • Bassetlaw District Council (20 001 449)

Statement Upheld Council house sales and leaseholders 04-Dec-2020

Summary: Mr C complained the Council delayed completing on his right to buy application. We find the Council was at fault for its delays in dealing with Mr C’s right to buy application. The Council has agreed to our recommendation to address the injustice caused to Mr C by paying him the equivalent of five months’ rent.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (20 007 145)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Council tax 28-Nov-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mr X’s complaint that the Council’s council tax policy includes an empty property premium charge of 100%. The Ombudsman cannot lawfully question the Council’s council tax policy and cannot achieve the outcome Mr X wants.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (20 006 088)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Commercial and contracts 25-Nov-2020

Summary: We will not investigate Mr B’s complaint that the Council issued incorrect invoices to his company for two and a half years and failed to correct them or to address other issues associated with the centre where his business was based. This is because we could not achieve the main outcome Mr B is seeking.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (20 004 773)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 03-Nov-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate this complaint about the way the Council responded to a food safety issue. This is because there is insufficient evidence of fault by the Council.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (20 001 037)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Housing benefit and council tax benefit 08-Oct-2020

Summary: Ms X complained about the Council evicting her in 2019 for rent arrears which she says were due to problems with her housing benefit assessment. The Ombudsman cannot investigate this complaint. This is because we have no jurisdiction to investigate complaints about social housing landlords. We will not exercise discretion to consider the award of housing benefit after her eviction because she complained outside the normal 12-month period for receiving complaints.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (19 009 184)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 23-Jul-2020

Summary: Mr B complains about the Council’s response to a water leak at the business premises he rents off the Council. He considers Council officers lied and their actions caused additional damage to his property. The investigation is discontinued as Mr B has alternative means of obtaining a remedy from the Council.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (19 018 635)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 26-Mar-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate this complaint about work carried out to a watercourse. It is unlikely he would find fault in how the Council decided what work was necessary.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (19 018 104)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Building control 05-Mar-2020

Summary: Mr X complains about the Council’s Building Inspection cost. The Ombudsman will not investigate this complaint because there is no evidence of fault by the Council.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (18 015 669)

    Statement Not upheld Other 20-Sep-2019

Summary: Mr S complains about the Council’s works to a watercourse near his home. He is particularly concerned about how it dealt with material containing asbestos on the site. The Ombudsman’s decision is there was no fault by the Council in the issues we have investigated. Other parts of Mr S’s complaint are better considered by courts, not the Ombudsman.

  • Bassetlaw District Council (19 005 476)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Planning applications 13-Sep-2019

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate this complaint about development next to the complainant’s home. This is because it is too late to investigate how the Council granted planning permission for the development in 2015 and we are unlikely to find evidence of more recent fault.
