  • Salford City Council (20 011 388)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Covid-19 19-Mar-2021

Summary: We shall not currently investigate Mrs X’s complaint about her late father’s care. This is because the Council is still investigating a related safeguarding complaint. Mrs X can come back to us once the Council has dealt with that matter.

  • Devon County Council (20 002 941)

    Statement Upheld Covid-19 18-Mar-2021

Summary: Mr X complains the Council and its care provider, Agency Assistance, failed to deal properly with his return home on 20 April 2020, resulting in him being asked to pay for the Care Workers’ gloves and being told he would have to go back to a care home if he did not agree to pay. The Council did not deal properly with Mr X’s concerns, putting him to the time and trouble of pursuing his complaint. It needs to apologise and pay financial redress.

  • Leicester City Council (20 010 150)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Charging 18-Mar-2021

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the initiation by the Council of safeguarding investigations in relation to the complainant’s care and financial management for his father. This is because we are unlikely to find fault in the Council’s actions. We will not investigate a complaint on behalf of the complainant’s father as we do not consider the complainant to be a suitable representative.

  • London Borough of Hounslow (20 011 509)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Direct payments 18-Mar-2021

Summary: We will not investigate Mr B’s late complaint about the Council decision not to investigate historical matters about his mother’s Mrs D’s care. This is because Mr B could have come to the Ombudsman sooner if he was concerned about Mrs D. There is no good reason for us to disapply the law in this case.

  • Isle of Wight Council (20 005 522)

Statement Not upheld Assessment and care plan 18-Mar-2021

Summary: The Council commissioned a discretionary housing-related support service to Mr X. It says it will undertake a needs assessment if requested but Mr X did not accept support which was offered.

  • Avery Homes TH Limited (20 007 015)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Residential care 18-Mar-2021

Summary: We will not investigate Ms B’s complaint about the actions of her late father’s, Mr C’s, care provider. This is because further investigation could not add to the care provider’s response or make a finding of the kind Ms B wants.

  • Nottingham City Council (20 011 666)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Residential care 18-Mar-2021

Summary: We will not investigate Mr C’s complaint about missing items of his late father’s from his care home. This is because we could not achieve the outcome Mr C wants. Mr C can ask the Council’s insurers to consider a claim for the loss of the missing items.

  • Durham County Council (19 019 435)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Safeguarding 17-Mar-2021

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaint. We most likely would not find fault with how Durham County Council responded to her safeguarding concerns. Also, we are unlikely to find fault with how her integrated care team supported her in response to those concerns.

  • Wiltshire Council (19 012 726)

    Statement Upheld Domiciliary care 17-Mar-2021

Summary: Ms C does not consider the Council adequately protected her mother, Mrs Z, which she says resulted in her not receiving the care she needed before she died. While there were a few instances when the care provided was not as it should have been, overall the care commissioned by the Council was adequate and in line with the court of protection approved care plans. The Council took safeguarding action when necessary. There is no fault in the actions of the Council, or the Care Provider acting on behalf of the Council which have caused unremedied injustice.

  • Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (19 016 476)

Statement Upheld Assessment and care plan 17-Mar-2021

Summary: There was a lack of clarity in the Council’s support plan. There was fault in the way the care provider used Mr E’s money to pay for food without proper authorisation and there was a delay in administering medication. The Council has agreed to apologise, provide a financial remedy and write to other residents who have been similarly affected.
