Summary: Mr and Mrs C said the Council failed to respond adequately to their enquiries about the care of their granddaughter, X. The Council was at fault for a failure to communicate adequately during early 2021. This fault caused injustice to Mr and Mrs C who were distressed by these failures. The Council has already apologised and no further remedy is required.

Summary: there was delay by the Council arranging Speech and Language Therapy for Mr F’s daughter, G, but the Council has offered an appropriate remedy. There are no grounds for the Ombudsman to recommend the Council refund Mr F’s legal expenses.

Summary: Ms B complained the Council failed to secure the provision in her children’s education, health and care plans and secure places at the named school. She says this caused her and her children distress. Ms B also complained the Council did not arrange transport for her children to get to their named school. We found fault with the Council for a short delay arranging Ms B’s children’s educational placements. We consider the Council’s apology a suitable remedy for any injustice caused by its fault.

Summary: The Council failed to provide alternative education for a child out of education after permanent exclusion. The Council apologised and proposed a remedy, which Miss X accepted before the complaint was investigated by the Ombudsman. The remedy is in line with our guidelines so the complaint was closed as the Council has already remedied the complaint.

Summary: Mr B complained the Council discharged his father in to his and his mother’s care despite them not agreeing to care for him. He said this put his mother at risk of harm from abuse and physical injury. He complained the Council did not provide support or respite. He said caring for his father meant he had to give up his job and negatively impacted his well-being. The Council apologised for its delay arranging to review Mr B’s carers assessment. We found no other fault by the Council and consider its apology a suitable remedy for the injustice to Mr B and Mrs C by its delay.

Summary: Ms X complained about the way the Council decided to place her mother, Mrs Y, at Finborough Court care home, Stowmarket. Ms X also complained about Finborough Court’s decision to appoint her sister as Mrs Y’s essential care giver. There was fault causing injustice when the Council failed to adequately communicate with Ms X or involve her in its initial decision-making. The Council’s apology and improvements since Ms X’s complaint remedies her injustice.
