Summary

Mr X complained about the Council’s failure to deal with breaches of planning control that affected his home. We found fault in the Council’s enforcement investigation. The Council agreed to apologise to Mr X for the distress and frustration caused by its avoidable delay and unclear communications.

Service improvements

The Council agreed to issue a written reminder to its planning enforcement staff about the need for clear and accurate communication with residents on enforcement cases. The aim being to ensure officers did not inappropriately raise residents’ expectations about what action it would take and by when.
