Category: Children's care services Date: 05-Feb-2026

    Summary

There was fault in complaint handling by the Council for which it has apologised and offered an appropriate symbolic payment. The Council has agreed to complete an action plan of steps to address its delay in complaint handling. Other matters Ms X raised have been considered by the court (or could reasonably have been raised by Mrs X in court) and so we ended the investigation of them.

    Service improvements

The Council will devise an action plan setting out how it will comply with the timescales in the children's statutory complaint procedure. The Council will provide us with a report of all statutory children's complaints received between 1 October 2025 and 1 October 2026. The report should be anonymised and include the date each complaint was received and the dates of responses under each stage of the procedure.

  • Milton Keynes Council (24 001 991)

Category: Children's care services Date: 22-Jul-2025

    Summary

We found no fault on most of Ms Y’s complaints against the Council about when it removed two sets of foster children from her care. The investigation of the allegations against her was done in line with procedures, there was no fault with the decisions to remove the children, and it was entitled to hold an early household review of her fostering status which was done without fault. It accepted it failed to send her confirmation of a variation to her terms of approval as a carer and failed to ensure she received all the supervision she should have done. These failures were fault and caused her an injustice. The Council previously agreed to pay her £250. It also agreed to review why the failures happened and ensure procedures are in place and followed in the future.

    Service improvements

The Council agreed to review why it failed to send a copy of the exemption/variation to the number of children the complainant could foster and act to ensure these are promptly considered and sent to foster carers when made on future cases. The Council agreed to ensure there are procedures in place when social workers are off work, for foster carers to still receive the required supervision/support.
