  • London Borough of Islington (24 000 256)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 17-Apr-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about rent arrears at Ms X’s temporary accommodation. The Council has offered a suitable remedy for the injustice its fault caused. Investigation by us would be unlikely to achieve significantly more for Ms X.

  • London Borough of Islington (24 004 959)

Statement Upheld Housing benefit and council tax benefit 11-Aug-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a housing benefit overpayment and a lack of response to the complainant’s emails. This is because the Council provided a satisfactory response, and the complainant could have used his review and appeal rights.

  • London Borough of Islington (24 008 137)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 14-Oct-2024

Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint about the suitability of interim accommodation provided by the Council after she made a homelessness application. The Council has already accepted the location of the initial interim accommodation provided was not suitable and has offered an appropriate remedy. There is no evidence of fault in how it responded to her concerns in her current accommodation.

  • London Borough of Islington (23 020 698)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 20-Oct-2024

Summary: The Council was at fault, because a management agent acting on its behalf gave the complainant the wrong key for a property it had allocated to him. However, the Council has addressed this issue appropriately. The Council was also at fault because it attempted to contact the complainant with an incorrect email address, but this did not cause an injustice. There is no fault in the other elements of this complaint.

  • London Borough of Islington (24 004 966)

Statement Upheld Housing benefit and council tax benefit 07-Jan-2025

Summary: There was fault by the Council. The Council delayed sending a Housing Benefit appeal to the tribunal. The Council remedied the complaint before it was considered by the Ombudsman by making a payment, apologising and forwarding the appeal to the tribunal. I find no fault in the Council’s consideration of Reasonable Adjustments but Mr X can take the matter to court if he considers they do not comply with the Equality Act 2010.

  • London Borough of Islington (24 017 163)

    Statement Upheld Charging 19-Mar-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council invoicing the complainant for backdated care charges which the complainant disputed due to him not being informed prior. There was fault by the Council due to an error with sending the complainant invoices. However, the Council remedied any injustice caused to the complainant with an adequate payment and apology. The evidence suggests the complainant was aware of his need to contributed to his care despite having not been involved.
