Summary: Miss B complained that the Council had failed to find her and her family suitable temporary accommodation since February 2023 when it concluded her current accommodation was unsuitable for her needs. We found fault with Council’s actions. The Council has agreed to pay her £500, review with Miss B the type of accommodation which could be suitable and find her alternative accommodation within three months.

Summary: We found fault on Mrs L’s complaint about the way the Council handled her request to move property. It failed to assess the suitability of temporary accommodation before and during their stay there. It failed to assess the suitability of the accommodation it wanted her to return to following repairs sooner. It wrongly stopped paying rent on the temporary accommodation and failed to deal with her formal complaint promptly. The agreed action remedies the injustice caused.

Summary: Mrs Y complained about the way the Council decided she was not entitled to an extra bedroom. Mrs Y says sharing a bedroom will have a negative impact on her health. The Council was at fault for not assessing Mrs Y’s care needs after being asked to. It was also at fault as its Housing and Adult Social Care teams both told her the other was responsible for assessing her needs. To remedy the injustice caused the Council agreed to apologise to Mrs Y and carry out an assessment of her care needs. Following this, the Council agreed to make a new decision on whether Mrs Y was entitled to an extra bedroom.

Summary: Mr X complained the Council placed him and his family in unsuitable interim accommodation and failed to make a decision on his housing application within statutory timeframes. Mr X said the mould and the distance from his child’s school had a significant impact on his and his child’s physical and mental health. We find the Council at fault, and this caused injustice. The Council will apologise and make a payment to Mr X.

Summary: The Council was at fault for the way it dealt with some land adjoining Mrs B’s property. It told her she could buy it when she could not. It then put the land up for sale, although it was restricted from doing so. It also failed to respond to her emails or provide her with the right information, which meant she felt she had to instruct solicitors. It has agreed to make symbolic remedy payments to Mrs B to recognise her injustice.

We fault in the way the Council considered Mr X’s entitlement to the energy rebate payment and gave him incorrect information about the scheme. The Council has offered a suitable remedy in this case. So we have completed our investigation.
