  • Essex County Council (20 003 299)

Statement Upheld Assessment and care plan 19-Mar-2021

Summary: Mrs Z has complained on behalf of her son, Mr Y. Mrs Z complains the Council has failed to provide Mr Y with a social worker for a prolonged period of time. She says this delayed his wish to move closer to his family. The Council was at fault for delays in providing Mr Y a social worker which in turned delayed his ability to move closer to his family. Also, the Council was at fault for failing to respond to Mrs Z in a reliable and responsible manner. This caused both Mr Y and Mrs Z and injustice and so the Ombudsman has recommended a remedy.

  • Essex County Council (20 002 075)

    Statement Upheld Other 22-Mar-2021

Summary: Miss Y complained about the Council’s actions after it received safeguarding referrals about her and the support it provided when she was subsequently made a looked after child. She said it failed to consider her complaints through the statutory complaint’s procedure. We find the Council was at fault for failing to record its decision making and delays in completing the required assessment when Miss Y was looked after. It also failed to consider Miss Y’s complaint under the statutory complaint’s procedure. That put Miss Y to avoidable time and trouble pursuing her complaint with the Ombudsman. The Council has agreed to make a symbolic payment to Miss Y to remedy any injustice caused. We have also recommended service improvements.

  • Essex County Council (20 002 815)

    Statement Upheld School transport 29-Mar-2021

Summary: Miss X complained that the Council failed to provide suitable home to school transport for her son and did not consider her appeal properly. We find that the Council was at fault in the way it considered her appeal. It has agreed to give her an opportunity to make another appeal including the chance to present her case in person. It will also review of the wording of its school transport policy on involving parents in making the transport arrangements.
