Decisions for Devon County Council between 01 April 2024 and 31 March 2025

There are 4 results (please note that to maintain confidentiality, we do not publish all our decisions)

  • Devon County Council (23 004 403)

    Statement Upheld Child protection 16-Apr-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s Children’s Services. Further investigation would not lead to a different outcome.

  • Devon County Council (23 020 402)

    Statement Upheld Fostering 11-Nov-2024

Summary: Mrs Y complains about the Council’s communication with her during the time she fostered two children. She said the Council undervalued and discredited her and as a result the placement ended. The Council acknowledged it could have communicated better with Mrs Y and apologised. This is an appropriate remedy and we have not proposed any further remedial action.

  • Devon County Council (24 002 502)

Statement Upheld Assessment and care plan 28-Nov-2024

Summary: We have completed our investigation. There was no fault in how the Council assessed Z’s care and support needs. However, the Council was at fault for failing to deal properly with Mrs X’s complaint. The action already carried out by the Council is a suitable remedy for the injustice suffered by Mrs X.

  • Devon County Council (24 009 626)

Statement Upheld Friends and family carers 03-Mar-2025

Summary: Miss B complained that the Council had failed refund deductions of child benefit from her Special Guardian Allowance to 2019 when she became a special guardian. We found the Council failed to properly consider whether Miss B’s circumstances merited a backdated payment over a longer period. However, the Council has now offered to make a payment of approximately £6,300, representing the deductions back to 2019. We are satisfied this adequately remedies the injustice to Miss B.
