Statement Upheld Building control 04-Mar-2026
Summary: Mr X complained about the advice provided to him by the Council about maintenance work being carried out at his property. He says the Council misinformed him which directly led to the work being delayed. There was then further delay from the Council while it considered his application. During this time, he says that he could not live at the property. We found the Council at fault, and this caused avoidable distress. It will apologise and make payment to Mr X.

Statement Upheld Private housing 16-Feb-2026
Summary: Mr X complained about the Council’s actions after he served a notice to his tenants and led to their eviction. We found the Council at fault as it did not contact Mr X, as the landlord, throughout the process, or consider whether it was reasonable for the tenant to remain in occupation during the relevant period. This caused Mr X frustration and uncertainty. The Council has agreed to apologise and make a symbolic payment to recognise his injustice from the faults identified. It has also agreed to take action to prevent recurrence of fault.

Canterbury City Council (25 001 078)
Statement Upheld Homelessness 28-Jul-2025
Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s handling of a homelessness application. This is because the Council has accepted some fault in how they managed the application and has taken steps to address the issues. We would not be able to add to the Council’s investigation into the matter.
