Housing for Disabled people

We know there is a housing crisis in England.

But housing for Disabled people is an often-overlooked part of the wider housing problem.

In the complaints we investigate about council housing support services, we have seen Disabled people suffering additional injustice simply because of their disability.

Read our report below - Access Denied - which calls on decision-makers at a local authorities to ask themselves “Does the housing in our area meet the needs of Disabled people, and do we give it the attention it truly deserves?”

Access Denied: Reducing the barriers for Disabled people when accessing council housing and homelessness services (PDF, 4.5MB)

As part of a campaign, we will be publishing more resources here in the coming weeks for local authority housing officers, to help them learn from our investigations.
