  • Ryedale District Council (22 011 416)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Housing benefit and council tax benefit 03-Apr-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a Council’s housing benefit decision as there is a right of appeal to a tribunal.

  • Ryedale District Council (22 010 967)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Councillor conduct and standards 24-Jan-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about how the Council’s Monitoring Officer dealt with a code of conduct complaint. This is because it is unlikely an investigation would add to the Council’s response or achieve anything further for the complainant.

  • Ryedale District Council (22 009 602)

    Statement Not upheld Other 13-Jan-2023

Summary: Mr X complained about the Council’s handling of a planning condition, including both its enforcement and an application seeking a certificate that it was immune from enforcement action. We ended our investigation as the complaint about enforcement of the condition was a late complaint. And the Council’s apology to Mr X, with its recent statement advising it should soon determine the application, meant further investigation would not achieve a more meaningful outcome for Mr X.

  • Ryedale District Council (22 002 167)

    Statement Upheld Allocations 13-Oct-2022

Summary: Mr D complains the Council delayed accepting his housing register application by six months. The Council has already acknowledged some fault and remedied this. The Ombudsman has upheld the complaint, because of the fault by the Council, and completed the investigation because there is no outstanding injustice to Mr D.

  • Ryedale District Council (22 000 975)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Enforcement 04-May-2022

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about how the Council dealt with a breach of planning control. This is because the complainant has not suffered any significant personal injustice because of the alleged fault.

  • Ryedale District Council (21 015 542)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Planning applications 04-Mar-2022

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s decision to grant planning permission or two developments in the area where he lives. This is because planning permission was granted in 2019 and Mr X did not complaint to us until early 2022. Therefore these are late complaints and there are not good reasons for us to investigate them now. We will also not investigate the way the Council has dealt with planning enforcement issues as it is unlikely we would find fault with the actions of the Council.

  • Ryedale District Council (21 009 845)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Councillor conduct and standards 02-Dec-2021

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s consideration of a code of conduct complaint concerning the behaviour of three councillors at a planning committee meeting. This is because the complaint does not meet the tests in our Assessment Code on how we decide which complaints to investigate. There is insufficient evidence of fault in the way the Council made its decision, and the complainant has not been caused a significant injustice by the associated delay.

  • Ryedale District Council (21 009 454)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Councillor conduct and standards 09-Nov-2021

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about how the Council’s Monitoring Officer dealt with a complaint about the conduct of councillors. This is because the complainant has not been caused any significant injustice and it is unlikely an investigation by the Ombudsman would achieve anything more.

  • Ryedale District Council (21 004 819)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Noise 01-Sep-2021

Summary: Mr X complained about the Council’s failure to take action over his complaints about noise nuisance. We will not investigate this complaint. This is because there is insufficient evidence of fault which would warrant an investigation.

  • Ryedale District Council (20 005 329)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Councillor conduct and standards 30-Oct-2020

Summary: Mrs Y complains about the Council’s handling of her complaint against a councillor who she says breached the Members Code of Conduct. The Ombudsman does not intend to investigate the complaint because I have seen no evidence of fault in the way the Council dealt with the matter.
