Statement Closed after initial enquiries Council tax 13-Aug-2020

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (19 015 332)

    Statement Upheld Charging 30-Jul-2020

Summary: Mr X complains about the Council’s handling of the charges for his wife’s care and the decision to backdate charges for a second evening carer between 10 December 2018 and 7 July 2019. There is nothing in the Council’s records to justify the backdated charge, as Mrs X has been paying for a second evening carer all along. The Council has agreed to withdraw the backdated charges, apologise, pay financial redress and take action to prevent a repetition of the problems experienced by Mr & Mrs X.

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (19 011 321)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Disabled children 24-Apr-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint about the Council’s actions regarding her relationship with her daughter. The complaint is largely outside the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction on the 12 month rule. Mrs X is complaining late and there is nothing to achieve by investigating.

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (19 018 954)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 29-Feb-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman cannot investigate Mr X’s complaint that the Council will not give him information he has requested about a resident. Mr X complains as a councillor which means his complaint is outside the Ombudsman’s legal remit.

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (19 008 424)

    Statement Not upheld Safeguarding 10-Feb-2020

Summary: Miss X complains about the way the Council handled a report of a safeguarding concern for her grandfather in a care home, and her subsequent complaint. She says it caused unnecessary distress and trauma, and cost her time and trouble. The Ombudsman does not find fault with the Council.

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (19 004 521)

    Statement Upheld Council tax 05-Feb-2020

Summary: Mr X complains the Council went back on agreement to give him a 100 percent discount on a council tax bill while his property was being refurbished. I have found the Council at fault. I am unable to make a finding as to what agreement was reached. However, I have found the Council should been clearer with Mr X about the terms of which discount was granted. I have also found that the Council should have told Mr X he could have appealed the Council’s decision about his discount to the Valuation Tribunal. I have made a recommendation the Council review its policy.

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (18 011 376)

Statement Not upheld Trading standards 27-Jan-2020

Summary: there is no fault by the Council in its consideration of Mr F’s concerns about the quality of specialist glass units fitted in his home which is a listed building

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (19 001 106)

Statement Upheld Housing benefit and council tax benefit 24-Jan-2020

Summary: Miss E complains about the information the Council asked her to provide for her housing benefit claim. She says it amounted to discrimination. The Ombudsman upholds the complaint because of a delay in making a decision. But we do not view the information the Council asked to see as unusual for people in Miss E’s circumstances, as a self-employed claimant. Other parts of Miss E’s complaint are outside our jurisdiction.

  • Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (19 012 769)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 02-Jan-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate this complaint that the Council aided and abetted in the abduction of the complainant’s children. This is because there is insufficient evidence of fault by the Council and because the Ombudsman cannot investigate crime.
