    Statement Upheld Child protection 29-Jan-2024

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (23 004 961)

    Statement Not upheld Noise 26-Jan-2024

Summary: Mrs D complains the Council has failed in its duty of care to them. It has been unwilling to take action to stop noise from nearby businesses. The Ombudsman’s decision is the Council has taken reasonable steps to investigate Mrs D’s concerns, which is what it is required to do by the Environmental Protection Act. So we cannot question the merits of the Council’s view the noise its officers witnessed did not amount to a statutory nuisance.

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (22 017 078)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 17-Jan-2024

Summary: The Council was at fault for not putting in place adequate provision for a child when they were out of school. The Council was also at fault for the time taken to find the child a school placement. This caused injustice as the child has fallen behind in their development. To remedy the injustice caused the Council agreed to apologise, make a payment to acknowledge loss of education to the child and secure the child suitable alternative provision while it finds a school placement.

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (23 010 865)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 16-Jan-2024

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (23 013 616)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Housing benefit and council tax benefit 10-Jan-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s alleged failure to properly advise Mr X regarding housing benefit. This is because the events complained about took place more than 12 months ago and there is no good reason to exercise discretion to investigate them now.

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (23 012 469)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Assessment and care plan 20-Dec-2023

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council delaying in delivering his replacement height-adjustable armchair, and not providing support to his wife and family prior to her having an operation. The Council’s fault regarding the delivery of the chair caused insufficient personal injustice to warrant us investigating. The support complaint is premature for us to investigate until the Council has responded to it.

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (23 004 142)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 14-Dec-2023

Summary: Ms D complained the Council failed to provide her with sufficient support after she approached it for homelessness assistance. She also says it did not implement reasonable adjustments. We find the Council was at fault for its failure to implement reasonable adjustments and its delay in responding to Ms D’s calls and emails. The Council has apologised to Ms D, offered a suitable financial remedy, and implemented service improvements. This is sufficient to remedy Ms D's injustice. We do not recommend anything further.

  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (23 007 241)

    Statement Not upheld Safeguarding 13-Dec-2023
