  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (21 002 587)

    Statement Upheld Noise 06-Mar-2023

Summary: The Council took too long to properly investigate Mr X’s reports of noise nuisance, fly tipping and planning breaches. It did not always properly engage with Mr X about evidence of fly tipping.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (22 015 635)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Parking and other penalties 03-Mar-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a penalty charge notice. The Council has confirmed it has cancelled the penalty charge notice; therefore, there is nothing worthwhile to be achieved through further investigation.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (22 014 939)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Special educational needs 02-Mar-2023

Summary: We will not investigate Miss X’s complaint about the education provision for her son. This is because the complaint is late and there is no good reason to our exercise discretion to investigate. Most of the complaint is also outside our jurisdiction. Any new issues need to be put to the Council.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (22 014 896)

    Statement Upheld Council tax 28-Feb-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a Council tax bill as the matter has been remedied.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (22 003 470)

    Statement Upheld Enforcement 15-Feb-2023

Summary: Mr X complained about the Council’s failure to take enforcement action to remove a structure built without planning permission. We have found the Council to be at fault because it failed to keep Mr X informed of progress being made to take enforcement action, despite its promise to do so. The Council has agreed to apologise and make a symbolic payment to acknowledge Mr X’s frustration. We also found fault because the Council took too long to determine a retrospective planning application. However, we cannot say the overall outcome would have been different had the correct procedures been followed because the decision to take enforcement action was discretionary.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (22 013 554)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Homelessness 13-Feb-2023

Summary: Miss X complains about the Council’s failure to resolve her complaint about a bed bug infestation in her temporary accommodation in 2020. We will not investigate this complaint which was received outside the normal 12-month period for investigating complaints. There is no evidence to suggest that Miss X could not have complained to us sooner.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (21 008 761)

    Statement Not upheld Homelessness 07-Feb-2023

Summary: We have discontinued our investigation of Mr X’s complaint because he has commenced legal proceedings against the Council about some of the matters raised in his complaint to us, and some other matters are referenced in those legal proceedings.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (22 013 971)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Allocations 07-Feb-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s assessment of Mrs X’s housing transfer application. There is insufficient evidence of fault which would warrant an investigation. We cannot investigate her complaints about housing disrepair in her Council home because the management social housing is outside our jurisdiction.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (22 013 500)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Housing benefit and council tax benefit 31-Jan-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about Mr X’s housing benefit. Mr X can reasonably use his right to appeal to a tribunal.

  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets (22 013 080)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Allocations 27-Jan-2023

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s handling of Miss X’s request for additional priority on her housing application. This is because there is insufficient evidence of fault in the way the Council considered Miss X’s information and in how it made its decision.
