  • Gravesham Borough Council (20 001 986)

    Statement Upheld Allocations 04-Jan-2022

Summary: Mrs X complains about the way the Council handled her housing application. Based on the evidence seen, we have found fault in how the Council considered Mrs X’s medical priority, but this did not cause her an injustice. We have found no fault in the way the Council responded to Mrs X’s reports of disrepair in her property. We find the Council failed to properly respond to Mrs X’s concerns about energy costs and affordability. The Council has agreed to make a financial payment for the injustice this caused.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (21 004 142)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Homelessness 22-Dec-2021

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about how the Council made a housing decision on his homelessness. That is because he previously applied to the Court to judicially review the Council’s decision. Therefore, his complaint is outside our jurisdiction.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (20 005 311)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Allocations 10-Sep-2021

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about housing allocations. This is because there is not enough injustice to warrant our investigation and it is unlikely we could add anything further to the investigation already considered by the Council.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (21 003 624)

    Statement Upheld Other 30-Jul-2021

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s failure to follow its complaints procedure. We consider the Council’s offer of £100 as a gesture of goodwill is a suitable remedy to the injustice caused.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (21 001 136)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Housing benefit and council tax benefit 14-Jun-2021

Summary: Ms X complains about the Council’s decisions regarding her housing benefit entitlement. We will not investigate this complaint because there is a right of appeal to a tribunal.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (20 002 980)

    Statement Upheld Other 27-Apr-2021

Summary: Mr and Mrs X complained the Council failed to take enforcement action in respect of a defective drainage system at a neighbouring property. There is no fault in respect of decisions not to take enforcement action. However, the Council failed to consider the impact on Mr and Mrs X and failed to take action to limit this impact such as requiring more frequent emptying of the neighbours’ septic tank. A suitable remedy for the fault identified has been recommended.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (20 012 153)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Parking and other penalties 14-Apr-2021

Summary: Mrs X complained the Council wrongly issued fourteen Parking Contravention Notices to her and did not accept her appeals. Mrs X states this caused her unnecessary stress and expense. We will not investigate this complaint as it is reasonable for Mrs X to appeal to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (20 000 118)

Statement Not upheld Disabled facilities grants 24-Aug-2020

Summary: There was a delay of about two months in arranging Mr D’s direct payment. This was fault by Kent County Council which has a legal duty to meet a person’s eligible care needs. It meant Mr D lacked support with personal care to enable him to wash. The Council will apologise and pay him £250 to reflect a loss of service to which he had a legal entitlement.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (19 015 917)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 14-Feb-2020

Summary: The complaint is about matters related to a Council-owned property next to Mrs B’s home. The Ombudsman cannot pursue this complaint as he has no power to investigate complaints about the management of social housing.

  • Gravesham Borough Council (18 016 083)

    Statement Not upheld Noise 29-Jan-2020

Summary: Mr B complains the Council has not done enough to tackle his neighbours’ antisocial behaviour and noise. He says that as a result his family are being harassed and victimised. There was no fault by the Council. It properly considered each complaint of noise and antisocial behaviour, and decided that there was no basis for it to take any formal action.
