  • Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council (21 006 220)

Statement Upheld Refuse and recycling 22-Feb-2022

Summary: Mr X complained the Council repeatedly failed to collect his recycling bins. As a result, Mr X had to make several reports and complaints to the Council. We found the Council was at fault as it did not collect Mr X’s recycling bin in line with its published policy and it failed to properly investigate his complaint. We recommend the Council apologise to Mr X, make a payment for time and trouble, carry out a period of monitoring on his recycling collections and take action to improve its complaints investigations.

  • Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council (21 015 804)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 22-Feb-2022

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council’s garden waste service. There is not enough evidence the Council’s suspension of the service involved fault. The Council extending Mr X’s garden waste subscription provides a suitable outcome for the suspensions. The missed collections once the service resumed and his reports to the Council did not cause Mr X significant personal injustice warranting our investigation. We will not investigate his complaint about the Council’s complaints process as we are not investigating the core issues giving rise to the complaint.

  • South Somerset District Council (21 015 877)

The Council has agreed to arrange a repair and so there is nothing more we could achieve.

Statement Upheld Refuse and recycling 16-Feb-2022

Summary: The Council’s contractors have often failed to provide Mrs Y’s assisted bin collection. This has been continuing for years, and despite the Council overseeing the service, the problems persist. This has caused injustice to Mrs Y who is chronically ill and physically impaired. The Council will oversee Mrs Y’s collections for a further three months and acknowledge Mrs Y’s distress, time and trouble with an apology and payment of £250.

Statement Upheld Refuse and recycling 15-Feb-2022

Summary: Mrs X complained that although she should receive an assisted collection, the Council repeatedly failed to collect her garden waste when it collected her neighbours’. The Council’s repeated failure to collected Mrs X’s garden waste on the scheduled days amounts to fault. This fault has caused Mrs X an injustice.

  • Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (21 014 916)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 10-Feb-2022

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the wrong refuse collection date being shown on the Council’s website, and the failure to collect the complainant’s refuse for a further two weeks. This is because the complaint does not meet the tests in our Assessment Code on how we decide which complaints to investigate. The injustice to the complainant is not significant enough to justify our continued involvement, and the Council has already provided a satisfactory response to the complaint.
