Local Government Ombudsman Annual Report and Accounts published

The Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) has published its annual report and accounts for 2013-2014.

The report, which was laid in parliament on Monday (14th), demonstrates the LGO’s continued commitment to openness and transparency.

The LGO starts from a strong a position to meet future challenges. In December the Communities and Local Government Select Committee commended the LGO for becoming more accountable, more efficient and more transparent.

The LGO also dealt with more complaints more quickly, and increased the amount of reports it published to raise awareness of systemic issues and share lessons learnt from complaints.

The Annual Report comes a day after LGO has published its first review of all local government complaints for England, which releases annual complaint statistics for all councils and identifies some of the pressures on the local government complaints process.

Dr Jane Martin, Local Government Ombudsman, said:

“We have published our annual report and accounts as part of our strong commitment to being accountable, efficient and transparent in the work that we do.

“The past year has been a year of transformation for LGO. Our new business model has exceeded our expectations in delivering a more efficient and effective service. This has allowed us to handle more complaints and produce more reports during the year against more rigorous performance targets.”
