Decision : Closed after initial enquiries
Decision date : 04 Mar 2020
The Ombudsman's final decision:
Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate this complaint about road safety issues raised by the complainant. The Council says it will take them into account in future so investigation would achieve no worthwhile outcome.
The complaint
- The complainant, who I refer to here as Mrs B, complained about safety issues she raised with the Council following a road traffic accident.
The Ombudsman’s role and powers
- We provide a free service but must use public money carefully. We may decide not to start an investigation if, for example, we believe there would be no worthwhile outcome. (Local Government Act 1974, section 24A(6), as amended)
How I considered this complaint
- I have considered what Mrs B said in her complaint and background information provided by the Council.
What I found
- Following a road traffic accident., Mrs B raised some highways safety issues with the Council.
- The Council addressed Mrs B’s concerns and said it would take them into account when making any changes to the highway at the site of the accident.
Final decision
- I have decided we will not investigate this complaint as it would not achieve any worthwhile outcome.
