  • East Riding of Yorkshire Council (24 022 850)

    Statement Upheld School transport 29-Jun-2025

Summary: Mrs X complained about the Council’s decision to withdraw the home to school transport previously provided to her child, Y. We have ended our investigation in relation to the Council’s decision to withdraw Y’s home to school transport because the Council will consider this complaint through stage 2 of its complaints process first. The Council was at fault when it wrongly referred Mrs X to the Ombudsman when it should have followed its complaints process. This caused Mrs X avoidable time and trouble. The Council will apologise, pay Mrs X a symbolic payment and investigate and respond to Mrs X’s school transport complaint in line with its complaints process.

  • Torbay Council (24 022 920)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We cannot investigate this complaint about how independent adjudicators are appointed to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal. Adjudicators are judicially appointed, and so the matter Mr X complains about is not an administrative function of the Council.

  • Bristol City Council (25 002 751)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Highway repair and maintenance 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about highways maintenance because it is reasonable to expect Miss Y to approach the court, which is better placed to consider the complaint.

  • City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (25 004 150)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Council tax 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about Council tax premiums because there is a right of appeal to a Valuation Tribunal.

  • Royal Borough of Greenwich (25 005 091)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Miss X’s complaint about the Council’s interaction with a Councillor. This is because there is no significant injustice that would justify our involvement.

  • London Borough of Havering (25 005 139)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about how a Council has dealt with a Freedom of Information Act request because it is reasonable to expect Mr X to approach the Information Commissioner.

  • Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council (25 000 576)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Enforcement 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council’s decision not to further enforce against unauthorised development on land in his area. There is not enough evidence of fault in the Council’s enforcement decision-making to warrant an investigation. Even if there were fault, the matters complained of do not cause Mr X sufficient significant injustice to justify us investigating.

  • Essex County Council (25 000 581)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Highway repair and maintenance 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaint about the Council delaying removal of a tree from a nearby drainage ditch, and how it managed her requests for service to get the tree removed. There is not enough evidence of fault in the Council’s decision-making process regarding the priority given to the works to warrant us investigating. There is insufficient significant personal injustice caused by the matters complained of to justify us investigating.

  • Milton Keynes Council (25 000 592)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Trees 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about some trees because there is insufficient evidence of fault by the Council causing injustice.

  • Wiltshire Council (25 000 717)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Fostering 29-Jun-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s placement of a young person with the complainant as a foster carer. This is because the complaint concerns matters which are for the courts to decide, and it would be reasonable for the complainant to take them to court.
