  • London Borough of Waltham Forest (24 014 624)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 26-May-2025

Summary: Mx Z complained about the way the Council has dealt with their homelessness when they were fleeing domestic abuse. The Council was at fault for the delay in providing interim accommodation, in ending the relief duty, in reaching a decision on Mx Z’s homelessness and in responding to Mx Z’s complaint. The Council has agreed to apologise and make a symbolic payment to acknowledge the distress, frustration and uncertainty caused to Mx Z.

  • Somerset Council (24 014 885)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 26-May-2025

Summary: The Council has agreed it missed the statutory target date to complete the annual review of a young person’s education, health and care plan, and that its standard of communication with his mother was inadequate. We consider these faults have caused injustice, and the Council has now agreed to offer a financial remedy to reflect this.

  • Laurel Tree Care Limited (24 003 087)

    Statement Upheld Domiciliary care 26-May-2025

Summary: Ms X complains about poor personal care provided to her mother Mrs Y by the Care Provider. There was fault by the Care Provider. However, it has already provided an appropriate remedy.

  • Worcestershire County Council (24 005 481)

Statement Not upheld Planning applications 26-May-2025

Summary: We found no fault on Mr Y’s complaint about the Council failing to class a nearby property for residents with disabilities as a residential home. Evidence showed the Council raised neighbours’ concerns about disturbance and behaviour from with the provider.

  • Cornwall Council (24 017 241)

    Statement Upheld Charging 26-May-2025

Summary: Mrs X complained the Council’s actions resulted in an overcharge to her late mother’s care home fees. We found fault with the Council delaying the Deferred Payment Arrangement application resulting in Mrs X’s mother incurring a higher Valuation fee. The Council agreed to apply a credit to the balance owed for £185 to reflect this extra charge and apologise for its delay in processing the application. We did not find fault with the Council’s actions about the other charges for Mrs X’s mother’s care fees. While we did not find fault, we recommend the Council writes to Mrs X to confirm it will complete a review of its financial assessment for the 12-week disregard if Mrs X has new information.

  • Cambridgeshire County Council (24 017 843)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Charging 26-May-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about assessments for continuing healthcare and disability-related expenditure. On the continuing healthcare matter, this is because we cannot consider NHS matters. On the disability-related expenditure matter, this is because the injustice is insufficient to warrant an investigation by the Ombudsman.

  • Teignbridge District Council (24 018 861)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Enforcement 26-May-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s decision not to take action against a breach of planning control. There is not enough evidence of fault in the Council’s actions and further investigation will not lead to a different outcome.

  • Norfolk County Council (24 019 308)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Parking and other penalties 26-May-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint about a penalty charge notice. This is because Mrs X is not liable for the penalty charge as she does not own the vehicle and the injustice she claims stems from the actions of the owner (a lease company) which has charged her for it.

  • London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (24 019 688)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Allocations 26-May-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the housing priority awarded to Ms Y. Ms X, on behalf of Ms Y, started court action so we do not have discretion to investigate the complaint.
