Summary: Miss B complains about the way the Council dealt with the school admissions appeal process her child. The Ombudsman has discontinued his investigation as Miss B’s child has now been offered a place at the school.
The complaint
- The complainant, whom I shall refer to as Miss B, complains about the way the Council dealt with her school admissions appeal for her child.
The Ombudsman’s role and powers
- If we are satisfied with a council’s actions or proposed actions, we can complete our investigation and issue a decision statement. (Local Government Act 1974, section 30(1B) and 34H(i), as amended)
How I considered this complaint
- I spoke with Miss B and made enquiries with the Council. The Council then responded and told me that Miss B’s child had since been offered a place at the school from its waiting list.
- I also sent a draft version of this decision to both parties and invited their comments.
Agreed action
- The Council have offered a place to Miss B’s child. The Ombudsman cannot achieve more for the complainant by pursuing the complaint.
Final decision
- I have discontinued my investigation as the issue has been resolved.
