  • London Borough of Haringey (24 005 889)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 19-Dec-2024

Summary: We decided not to investigate this complaint about the Council’s handling of a request for a review of Ms X’s priority band on its housing register. The Council has upheld the complaint about a delay in issuing its review decision and has agreed to apologise and make a payment to recognise the injustice caused. The Council has already apologised for a delay in allocating a support worker to help Ms X request a review, which was appropriate. There was insufficient evidence of fault in the way it considered the review to justify us investigating that part of the complaint further.

  • Hertfordshire County Council (24 006 440)

    Statement Upheld Alternative provision 19-Dec-2024

Summary: Mrs X complained the Council failed to arrange suitable education for her child, W, when they stopped attending school in February 2023. Mrs X also complained about how the Council dealt with two annual reviews of W’s Education, Health and Care Plan. The Council was at fault. This meant W missed out on education, Mrs X’s right of appeal was delayed and she was caused frustration. The Council made a suitable offer of a financial remedy and it is open to Mrs X to accept it.

  • Melton Borough Council (24 006 688)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Councillor conduct and standards 19-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaints about the conduct of Councillors or the Council’s handling of allegations about her partner because there is insufficient evidence of fault to justify our involvement.

  • Sheffield City Council (24 007 778)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Assessment and care plan 19-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaint about the arranging and managing of her care package which is funded by Sheffield City Council and NHS South Yorkshire ICB. This is because further investigation by the Ombudsmen is unlikely to add to the Council’s own investigation. While Ms X has ongoing concerns about the Council’s safeguarding process, it is too soon for us to look at this.

  • NHS South Yorkshire ICB (24 007 778a)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Community hospital services 19-Dec-2024

  • London Borough of Islington (24 008 305)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 19-Dec-2024

Summary: When Ms X fled domestic abuse, the Council delayed offering Ms X interim accommodation, significantly delayed reviewing its decision that Ms X was intentionally homeless and failed to send Ms X a letter confirming its duties and a personalised housing plan. To remedy the injustice caused, the Council has agreed to apologise, carry out the statutory review within one month, pay Ms X £675 and take action to improve its services.

  • London Borough of Harrow (23 018 585)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 19-Dec-2024

Summary: There was fault by the Council in May 2023 as it did not give Ms X a chance to comment on proposed amendments to Y’s Education Health and Care Plan before issuing an amended final Plan. This did not cause significant injustice. We did not investigate complaints about the failure to process an annual review in 2022 as they are late.

  • Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council (24 008 732)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Safeguarding 19-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaint about the quality of care her brother, Mr Y, received from the Council up to 2023. The Council has investigated Ms X’s concerns, provided a detailed reply and offered to meet with her to help resolve any outstanding concerns. We could not add to the Council’s response or achieve the outcomes Ms X wants, especially as Mr Y is in hospital and any future plan for his discharge will include reviewing his current needs for care and support.

  • London Borough of Merton (24 009 183)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Planning applications 19-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about fault by the Council in its handling of the planning process relating to the redevelopment of Mr X’s property. This is because the complaint is a late complaint and so falls outside our jurisdiction.

  • Onecall24 Healthcare Limited (24 009 630)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 19-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Care Provider. Mr Y’s care is commissioned by the Integrated Care Board. Therefore, issues with his care are not administrative functions of the Care Provider, and we do not have the legal power to investigate them. The complaint must be made to the Parliamentary and Health Services Ombudsman.
