  • Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (24 005 915)

    Statement Upheld Residential care 09-Dec-2024

Summary: Mrs Y complained the Council commissioned care home, Bamford Grange Care Home, failed to provide her late father, Mr X, with appropriate care and support. Mrs Y also complained the Council failed to properly investigate her concerns under its safeguarding procedures. The Council properly investigated Mrs Y’s safeguarding concerns. It accepted the care home delivered inadequate care to Mr X and was at fault. The Council has offered to waive Mr X’s care fees and make a payment to recognise her distress. It has also put in place service improvements to learn from Mrs Y’s complaint. This is a suitable remedy.

  • London Borough of Bromley (24 006 602)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 09-Dec-2024

Summary: The Council was at fault because of a significant delay in reviewing and amending an education, health and care plan. This delay caused frustration and distress to the complainant and her son, and the Council has agreed to offer a financial remedy and write a letter of apology to reflect this.

  • West Sussex County Council (24 008 365)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Safeguarding 09-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about an unexpected visit relating to adult social care. The Council was entitled to decide to visit, though would have been better to have told the complainant in advance. The complainant was not in at the time of the visit, and we do not consider there is sufficient injustice to justify an Ombudsman investigation.

  • London Borough of Croydon (24 008 651)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Assessment and care plan 09-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate Ms X’s complaint about support provided to her relative, Ms Y, by the Council’s adult social care services. There is insufficient evidence of fault to warrant an investigation.

  • Thanet District Council (24 011 373)

  • Lancashire County Council (24 011 407)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 09-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about what the Council recorded about Mr X during a child protection investigation. Doing so would be unlikely to lead to any worthwhile outcome as the Council decided not to take child protection action and closed Mr X’s family’s case without doing so. Another body is better placed than us to dela with any factual inaccuracy in the Council’s records, and defamation is a matter only a court could decide.

  • Buckinghamshire Council (24 011 507)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Homelessness 09-Dec-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s decisions on a homelessness application. It was reasonable for Mr X to use the review and appeal procedure to challenge the Council’s decisions.
