London Borough of Lewisham (23 020 216)
Statement Upheld Homelessness 24-Jul-2024
Summary: Miss X complains the Council did not review the suitability of temporary accommodation it provided her when she was homeless, when she asked it to. There was fault by the Council which caused Miss X to remain in temporary accommodation that was unsuitable for her, which caused her distress. It also caused avoidable time and trouble for Miss X in bringing her complaint. The Council agreed to apologise to Miss X and review her position on its waiting list for a move to suitable alternative accommodation. It will also pay a financial remedy and continue to do so until it places Miss X in suitable accommodation.

Kent County Council (24 002 757)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 24-Jul-2024

London Borough of Hounslow (24 002 881)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 24-Jul-2024
Summary: We will not investigate this late complaint about Mr X’s mother’s transfer to a care home in the Council’s area and her subsequent death after contracting COVID-19. There is not a good reason for the delay in the complaint being brought to the Ombudsman. In any event, we could not achieve a different outcome.

Suffolk County Council (23 021 216)
Statement Upheld Special educational needs 24-Jul-2024
Summary: The complainant (Mrs X) said the Council had failed to comply with the statutory timescales for an Education Health and Care needs assessment for her son (Y) and had failed within its communication with her. London Borough of Bromley (24 003 631)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries School transport 24-Jul-2024
Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a school transport incident in dropping off Mrs X’s child at her home address, and in suspending her child’s school transport. While the incident was fault, there was fortunately no harm to the child. The Council was also entitled to suspend the child’s school transport at short notice due to the nature of the reported incidents. Investigation is therefore unlikely to lead to a different or better outcome than that resulting from the Council’s own investigation.
-
West Sussex County Council (24 003 682)
Statement Upheld Charging 24-Jul-2024
Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint that the Council informed her that her mother’s care would be free and then sent them an invoice for care contributions. Mrs X also complains the Council delayed in carrying out a financial assessment. The Council’s apology for the delays is sufficient to remedy any injustice caused.
