Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (23 017 872)
Statement Upheld Other 15-Sep-2024
Summary: Ms X complained about the way the Council handled her statutory children’s complaint. She said delays had a significant impact on the family and caused distress. We find the Council at fault for delays in complaint handling, which caused injustice. We are satisfied the Council has remedied the injustice caused.

Statement Upheld School transport 15-Sep-2024
Summary: The Council was at fault for failing to consider requests that Mrs X made for reasonable adjustments to her daughter’s school transport provision. It also mishandled her complaints. It has agreed to reconsider her requests and make a symbolic payment to recognise her injustice.

Milton Keynes Council (23 020 138)
Statement Upheld Councillor conduct and standards 15-Sep-2024
Summary: Mr X said the Council failed to properly consider his complaint about a councillor and then failed to tell him about the Ombudsman. We found no fault in how the Council reached its decision on Mr X’s councillor complaint. But the Council delayed signposting Mr X to us although that delay did not cause him significant injustice. However, to prevent such delay possibly causing injustice to others in the future, the Council agreed to take steps to ensure people were made aware they could complain to us.

-

-
Cheshire West & Chester Council (24 006 384)

-
London Borough of Southwark (24 006 386)

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s charges for a selective licence for a private landlord. There is insufficient evidence of fault which would warrant an investigation.
-
Leeds City Council (24 006 411)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 15-Sep-2024
Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint about changes the Council has made over several years to access to and car parking in Leeds City Centre. This is because the complaint does not focus on claimed fault in specific decisions taken by the Council and the Council’s response sets out how it considered the impact of its changes on disabled people. It is unlikely we could add to the Council’s response or achieve any worthwhile outcome for Mrs X.
-
London Borough of Newham (24 006 572)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Parking and other penalties 15-Sep-2024
Summary: We will not investigate Miss X’s complaint about the Council’s handling of penalty charge notices. This is because it would be reasonable for Miss X to apply to the Traffic Enforcement Centre to challenge the Council’s escalation of the case.
-
Milton Keynes Council (24 006 355)
Statement Closed after initial enquiries Highway adoption 15-Sep-2024
Summary: We cannot investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council not taking responsibility for the maintenance of an access road leading to the school for which she works. Mrs X has brought the complaint on behalf of the school, which is a public body created for purposes of public service. We cannot investigate because the law prevents us from investigating complaints made by public bodies.
