  • Nottinghamshire County Council (24 020 211)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about information held by the Council. This is because the Information Commissioner’s Office is best placed to deal with the complaint.

  • Stoke-on-Trent City Council (23 012 532)

    Statement Upheld Other 14-Feb-2025

Summary: Miss X complained about the Council’s failure to act when she made several safeguarding complaints regarding the care her son received. We found the Council was at fault for not updating Miss X with its decision. This caused her significant distress. To address this injustice caused by fault, the Council has agreed to make several recommendations to address this injustice caused by fault.

  • Stoke-on-Trent City Council (24 006 544)

    Statement Upheld School transport 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We found fault with the Council’s initial decision to end Mrs D’s daughters’ Personal Travel Budget for home to school transport and to provide them with shared transport instead. It failed to show discussions it claimed it had with her about it. There is no injustice which needs remedying.

  • Surrey County Council (24 014 038)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We have upheld this complaint about the assessment of a child’s educational needs and delayed payments to tuition providers. The Council has agreed to resolve the complaint by offering to make a suitable payment to the complainant to remedy the injustice this caused.

  • Sanctuary Care Limited (24 014 734)

    Statement Upheld Residential care 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Care Provider’s actions when Mr Y fell in the care home. The Care Provider has agreed to take early action to remedy the remaining injustice we would likely find if we investigated the matter. It will pay Mrs X £500 to recognise the family’s distress and uncertainty, and it will issue a staff reminder about record-keeping. It is therefore not proportionate for us to investigate the matter further.

  • North Somerset Council (24 015 024)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries School transport 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mrs X’s complaint about how the Council dealt with her request for home to school transport. There was some fault by the Council, but it did not cause a significant personal injustice. An investigation is not therefore warranted.

  • Spelthorne Borough Council (24 015 523)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s decision to follow the wrong process when dealing with Mr X’s report of excessive heat in his home. The investigation remains ongoing, and we consider further investigation now will not lead to a different outcome.

  • Nottinghamshire County Council (24 016 103)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Child protection 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council’s involvement with his children. The complaint is late, and Mr X could have complained earlier. The law also prevents us from considering complaints about matters discussed or decided in court and when a person had a right of appeal to a tribunal. Both apply to Mr X’s complaint.

  • London Borough of Newham (24 016 113)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Homelessness 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this late complaint about the Council’s response to Mr X’s homelessness application in 2007. There is not a good reason for the significant delay in bringing the matter to us, and we could not carry out a meaningful investigation now. Issues relating to Mr X’s information request are best considered by the Information Commissioner.

  • Mansfield District Council (24 016 151)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Trees 14-Feb-2025

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about trees damaging Mr X’s property. This is because the complaint does not meet the tests in our Assessment Code on how we decide which complaints to investigate. It is reasonable for Mr X to apply to the courts.
