Statement Closed after initial enquiries Leisure and culture 04-May-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Miss X’s complaint about the alleged conduct of a member of staff. This is because it is unlikely we could add anything to the Council’s response, or reach a safe conclusion about what happened.

  • Dover District Council (19 019 602)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Leisure and culture 24-Apr-2020

Summary: Mr X complains about the Council’s alleged failure to properly accommodate a naturist swimming session in its new leisure centre. The Ombudsman does not propose to investigate Mr X’s complaint. This is because part of the complaint is late, and there is not enough evidence of fault by the Council to justify the Ombudsman’s involvement.

  • South Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council (19 010 275)

Statement Not upheld Leisure and culture 17-Apr-2020

Summary: Mrs B is a member of a community group that works in a park. Mrs B complains the Council has not secured access for the community group to noticeboards in the park. Mrs B says her group cannot use the boards to advertise events. Mrs B also complains the Council demolished a building in the park after saying it had no immediate plans to do so. The Ombudsman has not found fault with the actions of the Council.

  • Blackburn with Darwen Council (19 020 616)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Leisure and culture 14-Apr-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mr B’s complaint that he and his family were the victims of racial discrimination when they attended a library. Further consideration of the complaint is unlikely to find fault by the Council and would not achieve any more for Mr B.

  • Somerset West and Taunton Council (19 013 383)

Statement Upheld Leisure and culture 03-Apr-2020

Summary: Mrs X complained on behalf of her son, Mr Y, that the Council mis-sold him a holiday. There was some fault at the booking stage of Mr Y’s holiday, but the Council offered a suitable remedy. The Council was not at fault for Mr Y missing his flight and losing the money paid for his holiday.

  • Redcar & Cleveland Council (19 017 352)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Leisure and culture 01-Apr-2020

Summary: The Ombudsman will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council’s decision to serve him with a ‘Notice to Quit’ his allotment. This is because there is not enough fault in how the Council reached its decision, and so we cannot question the merits of the decision itself.
