Policy statements
Environmental statement of intent
The Commission recognises that all its activities have an impact on the local, national and global environment. It is committed to minimising this impact by reducing the resources it uses, using its resources more efficiently and effectively, and minimising its generation of waste.
To do this it will:
- Comply with all current environmental legislation.
- Ensure that all the suppliers and contractors it uses comply with the Commission’s environmental policies and procedures.
- Set annual environmental targets.
- Monitor and evaluate its performance against those targets.
- Expect all staff to support these aims and to examine their own working practices and behaviour at work, and those of any staff they manage, to achieve the targets and to ensure compliance with the Commission’s environmental policies and procedures.
The Commission will provide appropriate training and support to all staff. It will set up a staff Environmental Group involving representatives from each office to identify areas for improvement; to promote best practice to meet its environmental commitment; and to be a focus for staff contact.

Our management accepts the responsibility for applying the above and for providing information, instruction and training at all times and for the duration necessary to achieve this purpose.
Other persons may be affected by our undertaking eg visitors, neighbours, contractors etc, and our management accepts the responsibility to provide appropriate levels of safety for them.
We will provide suitable facilities and/or make the necessary arrangements for the welfare of all our employees at work.
Where risks to safety or health need to be ‘assessed’ under a specific duty or regulation we will ensure that an assessment is carried out and that all actions shown to be necessary will be implemented so far as is reasonably practicable.
Should any of our activities endanger the health of any employee, such activities will be monitored and where necessary arrangements for health surveillance made.
We will provide suitable information regarding the safety or safe use of our services and/or products.
We plan to minimise the risks created by work activities, products and services, organise ourselves in a way that secures involvement and participation at all levels and measure performance against our predetermined standards.
